  • Dogs are capable of locating the source of a sound in 6/100ths of a second by using their swiveling ears like radar dishes.

  • Dogs have a sense of smell that is one of the keenest in nature. Humans might smell a pot of stew cooking on the stove, but a dog can distinguish the smells of each individual ingredient, from the beef itself to the potatoes.

A dog's whiskers -- found on the muzzle, above the eyes and below the jaws -- are technically known as vibrissae. They are touch-sensitive hairs than actually sense minute changes in airflow.

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue - Adoption Policy/Application


There is a 24 hour waiting period after the submission of an adoption application to adopt any animal.

You must be prepared to pay an adoption fee of $200.00 for a dog or puppy.

You must be prepared to have your animal spayed or neutered when it reaches the proper age at the Castledowns Veterinary Clinic with the Spay or Neuter Certificate provided at the time of adoption.

You must understand we will need to speak to all adults residing in your household.

You must understand that permission from your landlord must be obtained before you take an animal home. A letter from your landlord may be requested.

You should understand that we cannot guarantee the health of our animals.

You must understand that we cannot guarantee that an animal has received any training or is housebroken.

You should be prepared to have any animal you adopt as a house pet.

You should understand the time commitment involved in owning an animal.

You must understand that if a problem arises the animal should not be sold or given to another home unless Northern Spirit K9 Rescue is advised and permission is given by Northern Spirit K9 Rescue.

You should understand Northern Spirit K9 Rescue reserves the right to deny any application.

Adoption Application

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Northern Spirit K9 Rescue
If you wish to pursue adopting a dog through our organization you must fill in and submit an Adoption Application before an appointment can be made to meet/adopt a pet.


When e-mailing us an Adoption Application please specify which dog you are interested in.
