The volunteers from Northern Spirit K9 first saw me in May of 2008 on the reserve with many other hungry dogs, and I was
one of the dogs in the pack with Rufus. I was 10 months old then. The volunteers saw me quite often when they came out to our reserve to feed the dogs, I was quite timid and would not come near humans. So the volunteers would put the food down and walk away and then I would come to the food. The other dogs picked on me because I was quite timid, and they wouldn't let me eat, so I had to have a pile of food away from the others. I used to hang out with Rufus at the east end of the reserve and then one day I disappeared and the volunteers didn't see me for several months.
In the winter of 2008 I appeared again, this time at the west end of the reserve where Rufus was living. I was still very timid and would only
approach one of the volunteers to take some treats, then I would run away. In the summer of 2009 I thought that a porcupine would be something
I might like to eat, but they have lots of quills, and I got lots of them stuck in me. When the volunteers from the rescue came out to feed the
dogs in my area, there I was full of quills. They tried to catch me on three different days, but I would always run away. Finally on the fourth
try one of the volunteers with a catch pole got me. I was not happy, but it was for my own good. They took me to the veterinary clinic where
they had to operate on me in the back of the suv because I had fleas really bad and they did not want fleas in the clinic where other dogs
coming in could get them. Northern Spirit K9 Rescue had to take me back to the reserve because someone on the reserve said I was their dog,
and they could not afford to get me medical help. The rescue could not leave me like this so they agreed to take me back. I was dropped off
at the reservation at around noon, and the volunteers came back to check on me that night. I was still abit sleepy from the sedation but
appeared to be doing ok.
I guess I didn't learn, because when the rescue came out a week later to feed the dogs in my area, there I was again with a face full of quills,
and the volunteers were told that I was like that for about 5 days, so I wast't able to eat or drink for the those days and looked very sick.
Because I was so timid I ran away from the people that were trying to help, but they outsmarted me and caught me again with their catch pole.
The person that said that I was their dog told the volunteers to take me away because they didn't want me to die on their property. This time
I was not going to be taken back to the reserve. Another trip to the veterinary clinic, another sedation, and alot of quill pulling later, I was able to
drink some water and eat a little bit of food. Thank you Dr. Lee for coming in on a Sunday. I had to stay at the clinic because I need medication
and rest, and when I was a bit stronger, I need to be neutered.
I had to go into a foster home after that because I was still very timid, was frightened of people, and needed to get socialized. My foster home
had a long road ahead of them, but in several months I was no longer frightened and loved to play with my new foster brothers and sisters.
I have found my furever home, with doggies to play with and I just love children. I have become a very gentle dog who loves belly rubs, treats,
and the company of humans. I also like long walks where I walk right beside my human. So when you are looking for an addition to your family, don't forget to check out the rescue's for that special friend, look how I turned out.
