JAKE

I was found on a First Nations Reserve with my buddy Spirit.  Some nice ladies had come to the reserve to feed the dogs and were leaving when they saw Jake and I at the side of the road.  They stopped to feed us and noticed that I had a hurt back leg, we were taken to the Castledowns Veterinary Clinic where the nice people there took care of my buddy Spirit and I. My leg was badly infected and I was started on medication, and I had my first x-ray. The doctor found that I had been shot in my leg and the bullet shattered the bone. If I was to survive and have a healthly life the leg would have to be amputated. The operation was very costly but the nice lady and man (Joe and Claudie) said they would pay for my operation.

I stayed at the clinic for about a week to recover from my operation, and Joe and Claudie tried to find me a foster home. A foster home was found through SCARS and I was off to my next adventure.

My foster home had lots of friends for me to play with and I adapted really well on three legs. My new foster mom took me places with her, and I got along well with all the animals there, even the cats.

My foster mom fell in love with me and decided to adopt me...yeah... so I have found my furever home.

My foster mom sends updates to Northern Spirit K9 and they will be posted here...

Jake had an especially hard time this Winter. I think I told you he contracted Bronchitis that just wouldn’t go away. After 4 rounds of Antibiotics he finally improved, but the dryness kept him coughing. We ran humidifiers in the house 24 hours a day and that would help a lot but as soon as he went outside in the dryness, his cough would kick in. He is starting to act more like an adult dog now. Before, his puppiness was very apparent, playing with everything…(even stuff that wasn’t a toy) He is now more settled and calm and I am loving the guy he is turning into. He is a big fella…weighing in at an even 135 pounds. (61 kilos)

At the moment, we are fostering a German Shepherd puppy, about 9 weeks old. He took to Jake right away and now they are best buds, which is a good thing since the cats (all 13 of them) don’t really like having a puppy in the house. The 3 other dogs are quite put out with me for bringing in a PUPPY!! , as they are much older and don’t want to be bothered, but Jake has taken it all in stride.
